On 8 May 2025, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol officially opened its new Car Rental Service Center, now one of the largest in Europe. The state-of-the-art facility sits on the site of the former P4 car park on Schiphol North and aims to streamline car hire operations, improve customer experience, and promote sustainability.

Spanning 40,000 m² for Quick, Hassle-Free Rentals

Covering an impressive 40,000 m², the new center can accommodate around 2,500 vehicles under one roof instead of separate desks scattered around the airport, customers will now find all major car rental operators located centrally, just a short shuttle ride from the terminals. This consolidation reduces confusion, cutting wait times and simplifying the pick-up and drop-off process for travelers of all backgrounds.

Five Major Rental Brands, One Convenient Hub

The five leading providers at Schiphol—Avis/Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt—have all relocated to this unified site. Their shared space features dedicated maintenance bays, cleaning facilities, and customer service desks, ensuring each company maintains its own identity while benefiting from the efficiencies of a single location.

Designed with Sustainability in Mind

A hallmark of the new center is its 17,000 m² solar-paneled roof, which generates enough electricity to power approximately 1,000 Dutch households annually. Beneath this “mega canopy,” more than 300 electric vehicles can be charged simultaneously, supporting Schiphol’s drive toward greener ground transportation. The integration of renewable energy and EV-ready infrastructure illustrates the airport’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and encouraging travelers to choose electric car hires.

“With this new location, we are not only providing the car rental companies with better facilities, but most importantly, we are encouraging the use of electric cars,” said Arthur Reijnhart, Director Commercial at Royal Schiphol Group. “If it were up to us, it would be the most normal thing in the world to drive an electric car to and from Schiphol. Together with the car rental companies, we are moving in this direction.”

Customer Experience Remains Paramount

Despite the move to Schiphol North, nothing changes for customers when collecting or returning vehicles. Courtesy shuttle buses run frequently between the terminals and the rental center, ensuring a seamless experience comparable to the previous setup. Signage throughout the airport has been updated to guide passengers effortlessly to their car hire shuttle stops, with multilingual instructions to assist non-native speakers.

By centralizing operations, boosting electric vehicle uptake, and delivering clear, customer-friendly services, Schiphol’s new Car Rental Service Center sets a new standard for airport car hire facilities in Europe.
