Wildlife Sculpture Collection at Hamad International Airport

Hamad International Airport (DOH) has introduced a permanent wildlife sculpture collection created by Dutch artist Tom Claassen. This new installation adds to the airport’s growing art program, designed to enhance the travel experience through creative and cultural elements.

The sculptures, made from bronze and aluminum, are placed throughout the terminal and feature simplified forms of animals, including elephants, oryx, foxes, and tortoises. These works reflect both Claassen’s artistic style and Qatar’s desert landscape. The gentle shapes and natural colors blend well with the airport’s design, offering travelers a chance to enjoy art in a calming and unexpected way.

Tom Claassen is known internationally for his playful yet thoughtful sculptures. He uses clean lines and minimal forms to express emotion and movement. His works have been shown in museums and public spaces across Europe and Asia, and now, for the first time, in Qatar. Speaking about the new collection, Claassen said he hopes passengers will connect with the animals as they travel through the airport.

Sculptures represent local wildlife, chosen to reflect Qatar’s natural heritage. These installations encourage travelers to pause, reflect, and enjoy a moment of connection with nature, even in a busy airport environment.

The project is supported by Qatar Museums, which leads the airport’s public art efforts. This collaboration aims to turn Hamad International Airport into more than just a transport hub. With every new installation, the airport offers a richer, more meaningful travel experience.

Passengers can find the new sculptures in key areas of the terminal. Whether you are departing, arriving, or transiting through Doha, the wildlife collection is free to enjoy and adds a special cultural touch to your journey.
