Munich Airport's redeveloped corporate design has garnered significant recognition across the design industry, securing two major awards within a matter of weeks.
In September 2025, the brand identity was honored by the jury of the Red Dot Award, one of the world's most prestigious seals of quality for design, in the "Brands & Communication Design" category. This achievement was quickly followed four weeks later by the title of "Winner" in the "Excellent Communications Design – Corporate Identity" category at the German Design Award. This award specifically recognizes projects that promote innovation and offer new perspectives through their design. The German Design Award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Frankfurt in February 2026. The airport's brand team celebrated the Red Dot Award win with their collaborating agency, Serviceplan Munich, in Berlin on November 7.
These two accolades validate the strategic significance of the redesign initiative. The corporate design was specifically developed to equip the Munich Airport brand for the demands of modern, digital, and barrier-free communication, all while preserving the iconic "M" logo's distinct character and recognition.
The refined brand features a new illustration style, a clearer layout, and a more defined visual language to ensure consistency across all touchpoints. This unified appearance spans passenger communication, retail, catering services, and employer branding.
This brand identity evolution comes approximately eleven years after Munich Airport's major 2013 brand relaunch. While the distinctive "M" logo retains its original shape, it has been updated to feature "dark blue" and "lavender" as its primary colors since November 6, 2024. The overall visual style is complemented by additional color pairings, including "moss green" with "mint," "burgundy" with "rose," and "orange" with "beige."
