Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport will add 16 new overnight aircraft parking spaces by next year’s Lunar New Year, the Taoyuan International Airport Corp. announced. The expansion comes as passenger traffic continues to surge, surpassing 35 million travelers so far this year, a 5.24% rise from 2023, with totals expected to exceed 49 million by year’s end.

To support growing demand, the airport is advancing multiple major projects, including its third terminal and third runway. The northern concourse of Terminal 3 is set to open before December ends. Meanwhile, construction of the third runway, launched in September 2023, faces delays due to ongoing residential relocations on the planned site. Officials noted that full relocation will not be completed until late next year, pushing the runway timeline back nearly two years.

As part of its interim strategy, the airport has built a temporary overnight apron in the northeast sector. Phase 1 opened in July with nine operational parking spots, and Phase 2 will add seven more before the Lunar New Year. Taiwanese international carriers will receive priority access to these new parking spaces, helping ensure smooth operations during the airport’s accelerated expansion.
