Taoyuan International Airport has announced a two-year postponement in the completion of its third runway, shifting the expected finish date from 2030 to 2032. The extension is mainly due to delayed resident relocation from the planned construction zone, now set to be completed by the end of 2026.
According to assistant vice president Pi Chin-ling (畢金菱), the new runway, located north of the current airfield, began its first construction phase in September 2023. Since the full construction process requires at least six years, the delay in clearing the land directly affects the final timeline.
To maintain smooth airport operations during the expansion, Taoyuan Airport is setting up 16 temporary overnight aprons in its northeast area. Nine are already in use, and the remaining seven are expected to be completed before the Lunar New Year holiday in February 2026. These stands will prioritize Taiwan-based airlines.
Pi also noted that the northern concourse of Terminal 3 is on track to begin trial operations this December, marking another milestone in the airport’s ongoing development.
