Tehran Airport Arrivals — Live Flight Information
Real-time landing times, terminal guidance and arrival procedures for flights into Tehran.
Tehran is served by two airports with very different roles. Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA), around 30 km southwest of the city, handles almost all international arrivals, while Mehrabad Airport (THR), inside the western part of the city, handles the bulk of domestic services. Knowing which one a flight lands at is the first thing to establish, since the two sit on opposite sides of Tehran.
Use the live arrivals board above with your flight number to confirm the airport, the landing time and the current status. A flight showing as landed is not a passenger at the exit — passport control and baggage still sit in between.
Tracking an Arrival on the Board Above
The live board above carries the details that decide when you need to be at the terminal:
Landing Times
Scheduled and estimated touch-down times, refreshed as the flight progresses.
Flight Status
On time, delayed, diverted or landed — worth checking before leaving for the airport.
Airline & Origin
Airline and origin city, so you follow the right service when several arrive together.
Airport & Terminal
Whether the flight lands at IKA or Mehrabad, which decides the whole journey into the city.
What Happens After Landing at IKA
International arrivals pass through a sequence of checks before reaching the public arrivals hall:
- 01Health and Document Checks
Any health declarations or document checks in force are handled before passport control. Requirements change from time to time, so confirm what applies to your flight before travelling.
- 02Passport Control
Immigration desks process arriving passengers, with separate lanes for Iranian nationals and foreign visitors. Keep your passport, visa documentation and any required insurance paperwork to hand rather than packed.
- 03Baggage Claim
Follow the monitors to the carousel assigned to your flight. Trolleys are available in the hall, and airline desks handle delayed or missing luggage reports.
- 04Customs and Exit
Baggage is presented to customs before you continue into the public arrivals area, where transport counters and meeting points begin.
Services in the Arrivals Area
Currency Exchange
Exchange desks operate in the arrivals area. Foreign bank cards are generally not usable in Iran, so arriving visitors normally bring cash to exchange and plan their budget accordingly.
SIM Cards & Connectivity
Local prepaid SIM cards for visitors are sold at counters in the arrivals area, and a passport is normally required for registration.
Information Desks
Airport information counters assist with wayfinding, flight queries and directions to the transport areas.
Prayer Rooms & Rest Areas
Prayer rooms, seating areas and food outlets operate in the terminal for passengers waiting between connections or for a pick-up.
Getting from the Airport into Tehran
IKA sits well outside the city, so the journey in is a real leg of the trip rather than a short hop:
- Airport Taxis
Official taxi counters operate in the arrivals area. Agreeing the fare at the counter before boarding is the normal practice and avoids negotiating at the curb.
- Metro Link
A metro connection serves IKA, though services run on limited hours rather than around the clock — check the operating times if you land late at night.
- Buses and Shuttles
Bus and shuttle services connect the airport with points in the city and with Mehrabad for onward domestic flights.
- Pre-Arranged Pick-Up
Many hotels and tour operators arrange a driver to meet arriving guests in the hall, which is the simplest option for a late landing or a first visit.
Tips for Arriving in Tehran
- 01Confirm the Airport
IKA and Mehrabad are on opposite sides of Tehran. Check which one the flight lands at on the board above and pass it on to whoever is collecting you.
- 02Bring Cash
Foreign bank and credit cards generally cannot be used in Iran, so visitors arrive with cash to exchange. Plan the amount for your whole stay rather than relying on withdrawing more later.
- 03Check Entry Requirements Early
Visa arrangements, travel insurance requirements and entry conditions depend on your nationality and change from time to time. Confirm the current rules with an official source well before travelling.
- 04Know the Local Dress Code
Dress code rules apply in public from the moment you land, including in the terminal. Having suitable clothing accessible in your hand luggage saves rearranging bags in the arrivals hall.
- 05Allow Time After Landing
Passport control and baggage take real time, particularly on the late-night arrival wave when several international flights land together.
Editor's Insight
Most of what makes a Tehran arrival smooth is settled before departure rather than at the airport: which of the two airports you land at, how you are getting into the city at that hour, and how much cash you brought. Many international flights land late at night, when transport options thin out — arranging the ride in advance is the single decision that saves the most time.
