ORD Airport Location
ORD is located on Chicago’s Northwest Side, about 17 miles (27 km) from downtown and the Loop. Direct highway access via I-190 and I-90 and a CTA rapid transit link provide quick connections to the city’s business districts and suburbs.
ORD Facilities
O’Hare offers airport lounges, nursing rooms, multi-faith prayer rooms, quiet areas, children’s play spaces and pet relief areas. Travellers can also enjoy local Chicago flavours, diverse dining, duty-free shopping and art installations across the terminals.
Ground Transportation
The CTA Blue Line runs 24 hours a day between O’Hare and downtown Chicago. Taxis and rideshares are available at each terminal, while car rental companies are centralised at the Multi-Modal Facility, reached by the free Airport Transit System (ATS).
Airlines and Connectivity
ORD is a major hub for both United Airlines and American Airlines, with dozens of carriers offering nonstop flights across North America, Europe, Asia and beyond. Many international airlines also connect Chicago with destinations worldwide.
Terminals Overview
O’Hare has four passenger terminals: 1, 2, 3 and 5. Terminals 1–3 mainly serve domestic flights and are linked airside by walkways, while Terminal 5 is the main international terminal, connected to the others by the free ATS.
Parking Services
Short-term and daily parking are located near the terminals, while long-term Economy Parking at the Multi-Modal Facility is linked to all terminals by the free ATS. Cell-phone waiting lots make pick-ups easy and stress-free.
Entry and Customs
International arrivals clear US Customs and Border Protection, with Global Entry and Mobile Passport Control available for eligible travellers. The US has no national VAT refund scheme for visitors, but duty-free shops serve international departures.
Security Procedures
TSA handles security screening at ORD using advanced screening systems and ID verification. Allow extra time at peak hours, and check whether your terminal offers TSA PreCheck or CLEAR lanes if you are enrolled.
