Hong Kong International Airport to Start First Phase of Expanded Terminal 2
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has announced the first phase of its expanded Terminal 2 (T2) will open on September 23, 2025. The initial upgrade is the Coach Hall, designed to serve buses and limousines, which is set to begin operations on that date.

What’s new in the Coach Hall:
- It offers 41 parking spots for different passenger vehicles, such as tour buses, cross-border coaches, limos, and local shuttles.
- This Hall will take over ticket counters and boarding areas from Terminal 1 and Car Park 4, and free up bus spaces in Car Park 1 to ease traffic during busy times.
What comes next:
- After the Coach Hall opens, the next part of T2 to begin service will be the departure area, including check-in counters and related facilities, likely in early Q2 2026.
- Additional parts of the upgraded terminal will open step by step after that.
HKIA will continue working with airlines, transport operators, and government agencies. They’ll provide staff training, rehearsals, and emergency drills to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Once fully completed, the expanded T2 will offer both departure and arrival services. This is part of HKIA’s wider plan linked to opening the third runway in November 2024, with T2 upgrades added based on passenger demand.
