Eat a Healthy Breakfast at Heathrow and Save the Environment

Heathrow Airport launches a one-of-a-kind breakfast called ‘Fly Up’ in an attempt to reduce its carbon footprint. The ‘Fly Up’ breakfast is made with oil which is cleaned and recycled into renewable fuels for use in the aviation industry. The special breakfast has been created in partnership with chef Heston Blumenthal to create awareness about the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) movement. The move also plays a huge role in Heathrow’s Net Zero plan which is a long-term plan for decarbonizing and switching to biofuels.

Heathrow is a global airport leader for SAF and aims to meet its goal of 11% of the jet fuel used at Heathrow to be SAF by 2030. The airport’s shorter-term goal is to reduce carbon emissions by up to 15%, and on the ground at the airport by at least 45%, by the end of this decade. The relevant authorities dealing with environmental concerns at Heathrow support the breakfast program not only for a delicious start to the day but more importantly for the awareness of SAF. The implementation of SAF at Heathrow is also most likely to reduce the prices of fuel with less usage of conventional jet fuel, making fuel more affordable for airlines. Therefore, the move is likely to help economies and save the planet at the same time.
