Tbilisi International Airport is starting a large expansion project. TAV Georgia will invest $150 million in the project. The company operates Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports. The project started with an official ceremony on July 13. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili, and representatives from TAV Airports and TAV Georgia attended the event.
$150 Million
TAV Georgia will invest $150 million in the expansion and development of Tbilisi International Airport.
10 Million Passengers
The airport will be able to serve up to 10 million passengers every year after the project is completed.
2026-2028
The expansion work is planned to continue from 2026 until 2028.
Tbilisi Airport Will Become Larger
The main goal of the project is to make Tbilisi Airport bigger and more comfortable for passengers. The airport can currently serve around five million passengers a year. After the expansion is finished, this number will increase to ten million passengers.
Passenger Capacity Will Double
Tbilisi International Airport's annual passenger capacity will increase from around five million to ten million passengers.
The expansion is important because more people are using the airport every year. In 2025, Tbilisi International Airport served a record 5.4 million passengers.
What Will Change at Tbilisi Airport?
Many parts of the airport will be improved during the project. New facilities will help passengers complete airport procedures more quickly and make the airport more comfortable during busy travel periods.
10 Boarding Bridges
The number of passenger boarding bridges will increase from five to ten.
7 Aircraft Stands
Seven new remote aircraft parking areas will be added to the airport.
9 Check-In Counters
Nine new check-in counters will help passengers complete check-in procedures faster.
24 Passport Points
The airport will add 24 new passport control points for international passengers.
The airport will also get two new baggage belts. Passenger areas inside the terminal will be improved, and new shops, restaurants, and business lounge areas will open. Parking areas near the terminal will also become larger.

New retail areas, restaurants, and business lounges will be added inside the airport.

More Passengers and Flights in Georgia
Georgia has seen strong growth in air travel in recent years. In 2025, the country's three international airports served around 8.5 million passengers.
85 Airlines
Around 85 airlines currently operate in Georgia's aviation market.
125 Destinations
Airlines operating in Georgia connect the country with around 125 destinations.
According to Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili, 43 new airlines entered the Georgian aviation market during the last five years. New international routes are also being added. Norwegian Airlines recently started direct flights between Tbilisi and Copenhagen. China Eastern Airlines is also expected to start direct flights between Tbilisi and Shanghai.
Nearly 788,000 Passengers in June
Georgia's airports served nearly 788,000 passengers in June. This was about 4% more than during the same period one year earlier.
New Airport Plans for Georgia
The Georgian government is also planning other airport projects. One of the largest projects is a new international airport near Vaziani, outside Tbilisi.
Vaziani International Airport
Construction of the new airport is expected to start at the end of 2027 and finish by the end of 2031. The airport is planned to serve around 20 million passengers every year.
There are also plans to develop the local airport in Telavi and build a new passenger terminal at Mestia Airport.
TAV Georgia Will Continue Operating the Airport
TAV Georgia has operated airports in Georgia since 2005. The company will continue operating Tbilisi International Airport until 2032.
The $150 million expansion is expected to help Tbilisi Airport manage the growing number of travelers and improve services inside the terminal.
With more passenger areas, check-in counters, passport control points, shops, restaurants, baggage facilities, and parking spaces, Tbilisi International Airport will be able to offer better services to millions of passengers every year.
