The Georgian government has officially broken ground on the new Tbilisi International Airport at the Vaziani site, marking the start of the country's most ambitious infrastructure project to date. With a total investment of $1.25 billion, the new facility is designed to handle up to 20 million passengers annually by the time it becomes fully operational in 2031. This move comes as the current airport reaches its maximum capacity, necessitating a state-of-the-art terminal that can support Georgia’s long-term tourism and cargo goals through 2050.
The Vaziani project is expected to transform Georgia into a premier global transit hub, rivaling major airports in the Middle East and Europe. Supported by economic feasibility studies from the Asian Development Bank, the project will feature expanded runways for the world's largest aircraft and a fully integrated cargo village. During the construction phase alone, the project is slated to create thousands of local jobs, signaling a massive boost for the Georgian economy and a new chapter for the nation’s strategic aviation infrastructure.
