Tokyo’s Haneda Airport has opened a new North Satellite facility at Terminal 1, marking the terminal’s first major expansion since 1993. The facility began operations on September 1, adding new boarding infrastructure and passenger amenities designed to improve domestic travel and accommodate future growth in air traffic.

Built on the northern side of Terminal 1, the new North Satellite features six fixed boarding bridges serving gates 24 through 29, according to the airport operator, allowing passengers to board and disembark aircraft directly without shuttle bus transfers.

What Departing Passengers Need to Know

  • The North Satellite serves gates 24–29, according to the airport operator.
  • Japan Airlines’ passenger guidance specifically covers gates 26–29, which are expected to require a walk of approximately 15 to 16 minutes from the nearest security checkpoints.
  • Arrive at your boarding gate at least 10 minutes before departure.
  • Under JAL’s revised policy for domestic flights at Haneda, checked baggage must be handed in at least 30 minutes before departure.
  • Save a screenshot of your boarding barcode in advance, as mobile reception in the area may be unstable.

Domestic Flights Only

The North Satellite is dedicated to domestic operations, so international passengers will not use the facility for their international flights.

Nevertheless, the expansion represents a significant investment in Haneda’s domestic infrastructure, combining additional boarding capacity with improved passenger services and energy-efficient design to help the airport manage passenger flows more efficiently.
