Incheon International Airport (ICN) has set a new global benchmark in aviation security and passenger convenience by launching the world's first fully automated International Remote Baggage Screening System. In a historic collaboration with U.S. authorities, this system enables cross-border checked baggage screening between two sovereign nations, effectively eliminating one of the most significant bottlenecks in international-to-domestic flight connections.

The Mechanics of Remote Screening
The new process applies to passengers departing from or transiting through Terminal 2 for selected U.S.-bound flights. Checked baggage is screened remotely by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers before the aircraft even departs from South Korea. Once cleared, bags are transferred directly to their final destination in the United States, removing the long-standing requirement for passengers to reclaim and recheck baggage at their first U.S. arrival airport.
20-Minute Reduction in Connection Times
By bypassing the baggage reclaim hall at the first port of entry, travelers can reduce their total connection time by an average of 20 minutes, allowing for tighter and more efficient flight schedules.
Expansion to Major U.S. Hubs
Currently operational on the Atlanta route, Incheon plans to extend this remote screening capability to Minneapolis, Seattle, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Salt Lake City in the near future.
